Kawit is a historic coastal municipality in Cavite best known as the birthplace of Philippine independence. On June 12, 1898, General Emilio Aguinaldo proclaimed the country’s independence from the balcony of his ancestral home, now preserved as the Emilio Aguinaldo Shrine and Museum. Other notable landmarks include St. Mary Magdalene Parish Church and monuments honoring Kawit’s revolutionary heroes.
